Social Media

Recently I saw where a friend of mine posted to her Facebook account how she had gone on a social media fast and how detoxifying it was for the soul and she gained more time in her day. As I read her post, and the responses she received, I thought about how much time people really do spend on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. Here she took a step back from social media and I found myself diving into the world of social media not knowing a thing. I’ve heard and read that you should post daily, or post often in order to draw people to your social media platform. When I first sat down to write – a few days ago – I found myself procrastinating and frustrated with myself. I started thinking, is this really something I’m supposed to be doing? Did I make a mistake? As those thoughts floated around in my mind I realized the enemy was attacking me from the failure front and I was actually letting him get away with it! The nerve! The enemy had his nerve whispering all those lies in my ear when I already knew that if God was for me then who can be against me?

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:31 NKJV

As you may have noticed I don’t blog every day. Recently, I added Facebook & Twitter to my social media platform and I’m thinking I must be nuts. Now I share my blog and daily devotionals to the new platforms and I have to tell you that’s a big scary world out there when you’re learning your way. 😅 Me + social media? No. But social media and what the Lord puts on my heart to share with you? Definitely. How much time do you spend with social media? Better question, how much time do you spend in fellowship with the Lord? I don’t spend as much time in fellowship with Him as I’d like but I’m working on changing that.

In today’s society, with the invention of the internet and social media, we are accustomed to the I want it now syndrome. Taking a moment out of the instantaneous world to breathe and behold the glory of God is something we all should do.

Imagine you are on a cliff looking over your life. Everything is a blur and rushing by so fast you can barely make out the pieces of your life. You’re on the fast track to nowhere and why? Because you can’t see what’s before you. You’ve been moving at the speed of got to have it now that you haven’t been able to see what is in front of you.

Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.

James 4: 14 NASB

Now imagine you’re on that same cliff looking over your life, but this time through God’s eyes. Things begin to slow down and the vision that once was rushing by in a blur begins to come into focus. You see things that you didn’t notice before. You see victories both small and large in your life, things you had been too busy to remember. You see failures and disappointment in your life but with a difference. Instead of seeing failure and disappointment, you see stepping stones bringing you closer to the Lord as He takes those failures and disappointments and turns them into something good and positive. And you realize Someone has always been there watching over you even when you thought you were alone facing the unknown. Set aside time today to fast your social media and spend it with the Lord instead. God bless!

Celebrate the Little Things

Ah, just paid off one of those pesky little bills. 😀 Woo Hoo! Around this time of year hospitals will sometimes run discounts if you pay your bill in full. And when you have several, paying off one no matter how small or large it is, is something to celebrate. So here I am doing a happy dance and praising the Lord, thanking Him that we were able to pay off one of the bills.

Yep, celebrate the little things. My enemy didn’t like that so much.

My enemy decided he didn’t like my happy dance. He decided to attack our finances. I decided he wasn’t going to steal my joy. Funny how things work out sometimes. Since our dog is terrified of storms we often have to sedate her to calm her down. Two days in a row of thunderstorms wasn’t ideal and I was allowed to take her to work with me since I work at our church and she’s really good about obeying. Its drizzling out, I’m trying to put a dog, lunch, dog supplies, my purse and bag in the car, and I still have to get her bed. I get this poor baby in the car along with the stuff and run back inside for her bed. Get her in the bed, hop in the car, turn the key and nothing. All I get is a clicking noise. I’m thinking, seriously? So I try again. Nothing. I call my handy dandy mechanic husband – no not really, he doesn’t work on cars – but I did call him.

Thankfully where he works is only about ten minutes away from home. Okay, I’ll take the dog inside the house and we’ll wait for him to come home. Nope not happening. She refused to get out of the car. My husband comes home and at first we can’t get the car jumped off and I’m praying, please let it be something simple like needing a battery. Finally, it starts and we head to the store in hopes of it just needing a battery. Yes! A new battery and I’m good to go. A battery that cost enough money that it almost countered the celebratory happy dance earlier in the week. But I chose to celebrate the small things and praised the Lord instead that it was a battery and not something more.

Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 5:20

Instead of letting the enemy steal your joy, be thankful in all things even when it seems like life throws you a curve. Choose to praise the Lord and instead of the enemy stealing your joy, you can steal his by not giving in to his attempts to steal from you. God bless!

Celebrating Another Year!

Hey there! Thanks for dropping in! Recently I celebrated my birthday and I was super blessed by all the love shown to me. My amazing husband, who leaves for work before I’m even awake, had decorated the living room and kitchen. My present was strategically placed so I couldn’t miss it coming around the corner. I loved it! 🥰 God bless this humble man; he is an amazing artist, an awesome Sunday School teacher, and though he would tell you he isn’t creative, he really is. The love behind everything he does shines through. He encourages and blesses me daily. He lets me be me and that alone says a lot since I’m truly more of a kid than an adult. 🤗

Heading into work, I really didn’t give much thought about our worship leader planning surprises. I should have known she had something up her sleeve. She was already at work by the time I got there and as I was be-bopping down the hall to my office she wishes me a Happy Birthday and steps into the hall to talk to me as I’m unlocking the door to my office. Yep, I should have known.

I’m loaded down with my stuff not paying attention as I open the door. Totally caught me off guard with a decorated office. Oh my gosh! I even had a tiara so I could be a princess for the day! lol! I was so blessed with my gifts and her thoughtfulness between her and my husband I was tearing up just thinking about my blessings. I knew my husband planned on taking me to dinner so I was pretty excited by this time just counting down to when we’d be going out.

Unbeknownst to me I had another surprise in store. My co-worker had planned a birthday luncheon for me with a few dear ladies from our church. We had a blast sharing stories from our lives. I was blessed by these wonderful ladies taking time out of their busy schedules to come and share in celebrating my birthday with me.

About the picture at above, that is a photo of my first painting when my husband was teaching me how to paint. Our worship leader took it turned it into a graphic design and she also created my logo for this blog. I am blessed that God brought all of these wonderful people into my life. They encourage, bless, and teach me how to grow in God’s grace. God bless!

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

Recharge

Have you ever picked up your cell phone to make a call only to discover that it was dead and needed a charge? Or as you head out the door running late for work or an appointment you discover your Bluetooth device needed charging. Talk about annoying.

Just as our devices need to be recharged we also need a recharge. When we neglect to take care of ourselves, we become easy targets for the enemy to attack. We already know he comes at us in multiple ways. Whether it is a subtle attack or a full blown attack, if we don’t take the time to recharge our spirit man not only will we be ill prepared for an attack, we won’t see it coming.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Now, I don’t know about you, but that sure does sound nice to me. Imagine if you will, going to the Lord and saying something like this: Jesus, I’m tired. I don’t know how I’m going to come up with the money to pay that unexpected bill. The kids are always arguing, my spouse is working two jobs and we still can’t seem to get ahead. I can’t take it anymore!

Imagine Jesus smiling and nodding His head thoughtfully as He lets you vent and pour out your heart telling Him all about your troubles and not being able to make ends meet. About the unexpected bill that only adds to mound of bills needing to be paid. He listens attentively until your spent and have run out of things to say. Can you feel His presence as He wraps His loving arms around you and says here, let’s trade and I’ll carry that for you so you can rest. My burden is light compared to yours. This humble Man offering to take your burden so you can rest! And then it happens. You feel an energy beginning to bubble up inside of you and it feels as though you can do anything! Your ready to continue on your journey and as you hug this amazing Man thanking Him for helping you and giving you a place to rest it hits you; time has flown by and you not only feel energized but you have a spring in your step as you continue on your way.

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Are you weary? Call on Jesus and wait on Him as He strengthens and refreshes you so you can continue on your journey. God bless!

The Struggle

the enemy has taken territory; its time to take it back

Oh my gosh! 21 day prayer journey and I have to say that I am failing at keeping territory the enemy snuck in and stole. That’s right, that thieven enemy entered my territory and managed to take a piece of territory that wasn’t his. How you ask? Well, as much as I hate to admit it, he came at me from the subtle check this out isn’t it the new book in that series you have? approach.

You may or may not remember me mentioning in one of my earlier posts that reading is a weakness for me. I mean put me in a library, leave me food and water and I can easily get lost in the world of books. I have hundreds of books on the bookshelves at home and probably two or three hundred easily on my tablet if not more. Yeah, its that bad. In fact it had gotten to the point I quit purchasing google play cards to keep myself from buying more books. And I had started purchasing google play cards to prevent myself from overspending in our checking account. Yep, bookaholic for sure. So of course after about six or seven months of not buying any books I finally broke down and bought a google card so I could buy a book.

Bought a book and I was fine, read it went on about my business. Started the 21 Day Prayer and there he was, my enemy, leaning against the counter tapping on a book that just so happen to be the next in a series I was reading. I leaned over for a closer look as he slid to the side to allow me a good look at this book I’ve been waiting months to read. Listen, when it comes to Christian romance & suspense, I’m there. Love a good mystery to solve as well.

So my enemy flicked the book open to give me a sample of what was inside. I was hooked. I sat down read the book and when I was finished with it I happened upon two more in a different series that I was reading so of course I just had to have those as well. Needless to say, my prayer time suffered, my devotional time suffered and my blogging suffered as well.

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

He stole my time and I let him do it. Didn’t plan on letting him take it but because I wasn’t diligent with spending my time in the Word he was able to sneak in and take over. He’s cunning, sneaky, and if he can’t get to you by intimidation, he will come at you like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. And once he has you, the mask comes off and he’ll be laughing in your face at the chaos he creates.

Psalms 143:10 Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.

May we always make time for the Lord, seeking, searching, praying for His wisdom to guide us on the slippery slope of life. God bless!
