The Six Letter Word

He calls me up and says “Honey, I’m pregnant” and then proceeds to tell me… Humor. It gets you through the tough times.

2020 – What a year this is turning out to be. Who would have thought we would be going through a pandemic? Life still goes on. Several months ago my husband went for his yearly check up. Check in. Check something. 😄 I reminded him to ask about why his voice always seemed to fade toward the end of the day. He told me – I’d be hoarse too if I had to deal with twenty plus women all day. 🤣 But he said he would ask because he had noticed the hoarseness happening more often and even at work his voice would sometimes fade. I felt bad about asking him to sometimes repeat himself but he would be talking normal and it would sound like a whisper. Once when he had to repeat something he yelled (at least he said he did) and it sounded normal. When you make a living talking to people, it’s kind of important to be able to talk.

His doctor did blood work and the normal yearly check up stuff. He sent my husband went to an Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist. They didn’t find anything of concern and thought it was possibly stress related. Possible since he does have a stressful job. Meanwhile his doctor continued to keep an eye on things and sent him to another specialist when he noticed something. They did an ultrasound and then my husband was off to another specialist because his doctor had noticed the area of concern that he had been monitoring had changed. In the midst of the doctor visits, COVID-19 made its entrance into the world. Well after multiple tests, an area of concern growing, and more specialists, we found out my husband has…

I think when my husband heard the news and shared it with me, we weren’t really surprised. I mean before they would tell him over the phone – all’s is good or whatever. This time they said he had to come in because they couldn’t give him the results over the phone. As a former cancer patient, he handled the news rather well. He calls me up and says “Honey, I’m pregnant.” and then he confirmed it was thyroid cancer. Humor. It gets you through the tough times. We’re at the waiting stage (again) and should know something soon on when his surgery will be.

This was no surprise to God. He knew before this day ever existed that we would be hearing this bit of news and He started preparing us for this day. From the moment we received the news, I started connecting with my prayer warriors asking them to pray. When I say prayer warriors, I’m talking about powerful, mountain moving, prayer warriors. We are blessed to have a church family that genuinely cares about one another. I am also blessed to be a part of a community of fellow bloggers who love the Lord. People who have and continue to encourage me with their words of wisdom, life lessons, inspiring poems, and yes, yummy recipes. God bless.

  1. I am praying for your husband, as well, Marie. These are already difficult times, but, as you said, God already knew about this and has made provisions for you. May He cover you with His peace and love at this time. 🙏

    1. Yes I agree prayer does work all the time. Even when we think God doesn’t hear us, He does and He answers us in His timing not ours. Thank you for commenting. I will check out your link and thank you for sharing. God bless!
