The Cracked Windshield

What started out small began to grow. The small crack grew until it spanned halfway across the windshield and dropped down. It didn’t happen overnight but it happened. Why? Neglect. You know what I mean. You think to yourself, well it’s a small crack, I can take care of it later. Only to realize too late that later never came. Maintenance. Whether a vehicle, a home, or a relationship, they all have one thing in common: maintenance. In order to keep your vehicle running smoothly, you have to take care of it, have routine maintenance, and fix the small issues when they are still small instead of waiting until it becomes a big deal. The same thing applies to maintaining a home or even a relationship. You have to have routine maintenance in order to keep things running smoothly.

Years ago my husband wanted a truck. (Must be a Southern thing. 😉 Or more likely a guy thing.) So we got a truck. It’s been around for quite awhile now and has been in the shop off and on for multiple issues. We fix one thing and everything seems fine but after awhile something else needs to be fixed. We also own another vehicle and it is getting to the age where it too will need additional work.

As I thought about what we needed to save up for in the vehicle maintenance department, I thought about relationships. More accurately, I thought about our relationship with the Lord and how we need to maintain it.

Pray – Seek – Obey

Our first step in maintaining our relationship with the Lord begins with prayer.

I will give thanks to thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are thy works and my soul knows it very well.

Psalm 139:14

As you pray, give thanks, remembering that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. God didn’t make a mistake when He created you. He knew exactly what He was doing when He created you. So give Him thanks for the beautiful person that you and while you are giving Him thanks, ask Him to open your eyes to see what He is wants teach you.

Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from thy law.

Psalm 119: 18

Our second step in maintaining our relationship with the Lord is to seek Him. There is so much that He wants to share, to teach, to show us. We are told to seek Him and when we do we will find Him. But it has to be more than just opening the Bible and reading a passage. We have to diligently be searching for Him in order to find Him.

I love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me.

Proverbs 8:17

As we study His Word and what He is teaching us, there will be times when He tells us to do something. It may seem small or insignificant to us or it could be something seemingly too large for us to handle; but it is the act of obedience that is important. Will we look upon it as too small or too large and not obey? Or will we take that something that He has entrusted to us and obey?

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

James 1:22

Pray. Seek. Obey. Just as it is important for us to maintain our vehicles and keep them running properly; it is even more important for us to maintain our relationship with Jesus and trust in Him as He helps us to navigate through life. God bless! 💗
