You hop on the train, find your seat, and now it’s time to relax and enjoy the ride. You have no idea where you are headed and for the moment you really don’t care. You can get off the train at any number of stops and when you are good and ready that’s exactly what you plan to do; but for now you just want to ride and forget about the hectic day you just had. As you begin to relax you close your eyes for a moment sighing heavily as the train rumbles beneath you. You sense someone has taken a seat next to you and you hope they don’t plan on striking up a conversation. After the day you had, conversation is the last thing on your mind. For the moment it seems as though your wish for silence is granted.
Then little by little your attention is drawn to the person seated beside you. He isn’t necessarily speaking to you but instead to some of the other passengers sitting across the aisle from you. As you listen to him talking you get caught up in his words. Soon you find yourself asking questions and listening to what he is saying. Distracted by your fellow passenger you don’t notice when other passengers begin to leave the train. You don’t notice that soon you and your fellow passenger are the only ones left on board. You don’t notice that the train seems to be going nowhere.
The enemy is like that. His smooth talking draws you in and distracts you from the path that leads to life. He makes his way sound enticing and good, using every means available to keep you from thinking about truth, faith, and hope. By the time you snap out of your trance the enemy has drawn you so far in that you can’t see a way of escape. You see the emergency brake on the side of the car and reach out to yank it to stop the train.
But if you indeed obey His voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.Exodus 23:22
God sees what the enemy is doing and He gives us instruction and promises throughout His Word. Obey His voice and He will be there protecting, guarding and keeping us safe. It starts with us. We have to first open the door to receive what He has to offer. Yes, God created us. But He created us giving us free will. If we close Him off He isn’t going to force His way in. He will however, wait for you to take that first step.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.John 3:16,17
It’s time to hop off the train leading nowhere and get back on the train leading to a more abundant life. If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I invite you to ask Him into your heart today. Confess with your mouth that you are a sinner, acknowledge that He is Lord, ask Him to forgive you of your sins and to come into your heart. Do you want to know Him? He’s waiting for you with open arms. Will all your troubles disappear? No. But even as you go through trials and you will; He will be there by your side protecting you and making your burden lighter as you learn to trust in Him.
Maybe you already know Him but life got busy, and the burdens you bear seem so heavy that you begin to doubt that God cares about you. You have forgotten about your first love and what it was like when you first became a Christian. The enemy, seeing the sorrow, sadness, confusion and doubt in you, takes the opportunity to prey on you, making you believe that God is too busy to worry about little ol’ you. Disheartened, you may have stopped going to church because you feel like no one cares. That no one understands what you are going through. But you would be wrong. There are those who do understand. Who do care about you. Jesus tells us…
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.John 14:27
It’s time to stop listening to the lies of the enemy and start listening to the Father once more. He gives you a peace that surpasses all understanding. He offers to exchange your burden for His. It’s time to take Him up on His offer.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.Matthew 11: 30
